The Town of New Canaan is an honoree of Stamford's 2030 District 5th Annual Change Makers Award.

Project Award: Energy Efficiency Award / Municipality

In 2019, the Town of New Canaan began a multi-measure sustainability plan incorporating clean energy generation, conversion to low-emission fuel sources, and resiliency measures. New Canaan’s holistic approach to decarbonization serves as a model for towns in New England. MHR has completed a community-scale opportunity analysis for the Town of New Canaan including: New Canaan Fire Station, Nature Center, Transfer Station, and Town Hall. As part of the financial feasibility study, MHR secured renewable energy credits (RECs) to support roof-mounted solar. MHR then developed an RFP to receive competitive bids for these four projects.  MHR will oversee the installation of these solar systems.
