WILTON CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH

DEEP ENERGY RETROFIT / HISTORICAL RESTORATION

TYPE: Historic Preservation

LOCATION: Wilton, CT

BUILDING SIZE: 22,620 SF

SUSTAINABILITY UPGRADES: LIGHTING

  • Improved quality, color temperature and consistency of interior and exterior lighting

  • Annual electrical cost savings of over $12,000

  • Annual electricity reduction of approximately 60,000 kWh

MHR performed an Opportunity Assessment / Building Energy Audit for the Wilton Congregational Church. The findings were used to benchmark the building in connection with the US DOE EnergyStar program and to guide in recommendations for cost-justified energy conservation upgrades. After establishing baseline conditions, MHR recommended several energy conservation measures (ECMs), including upgrading lighting, controls and building insulation.

Feasibility of several additional energy projects was also assessed including expansion of the local natural gas main line to serve the facility, implementation of a combined heat and power (CHP) system and the development of a demand profile to provide sizing parameters for an onsite backup power generator.

In the spring of 2020, Wilton Congregational Church completed a building-wide lighting upgrade which involved converting all existing fluorescent lights to LEDs and installing new lighting controls where applicable.
